Description
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a research-based approach to teaching and learning that focuses on designing courses that are accessible, inclusive, and supportive of the diversity and various needs of students. In this session, you will be introduced to the basics of the UDL design framework which includes how students access material, engage with it, and show what they know. The session will focus on easy-to-implement course design strategies that remove barriers to learning and give students equal opportunities to succeed.
You will leave this session with strategies for simple changes that can be made to instructional materials and assessments that will change how you reach, teach, and engage the students in your courses. Examples and guidelines will be shared.
After this session, you will be able to:
- Explain the basic principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
- Explain the relationship between and importance of UDL and accessibility as applied to online higher education courses.
- Identify several strategies for implementing UDL principles in the design of online higher education courses.
